FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is organizing the program?
My name is Seth Compton and I am organizing Creative Summer / Kreatywne Lato. I am a theater artist, teacher and producer. I grew up in Franklin, Massachusetts and attended Bard College in upstate New York. After graduating I moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. Seven years ago I came to Poland at the invitation of Song of the Goat theater company. During that collaboration I started my own nonprofit foundation to create artistic projects. Now, in addition to running Fundacja Aardvark Arts, I am also the director of Arts and Culture at the American School of Wrocław and a teacher of IB Drama in the Middle Years Program at the Wrocław International School. My entire life has been spent working in the arts and with young people.

Creative Summer / Kreatywne Lato is based largely on the Charles River Creative Arts Program in the United States. I was a student and a teacher there for many years. It was a life changing experience. It is a place where children can take risks, explore, and unlock their creative thinking. I hope our program in Poland will carry out those same principles  and inspire the lives of young people here in Wrocław.

Why an arts program?
At Creative Summer we believe the arts matter now. There is a vast collection of research and opinions about why the arts are important in our children’s education, our lives and in the future. Speaking personally, the arts made me a better person. In primary school I liked being the class clown and making people laugh. But my teachers did not always appreciate my… energy. Then I started to study Acting as a craft. This passion anchored me and helped me develop better skills at listening. If I wanted to express myself and have other people hear me, I had to figure out a way to manage my behavior and harness my energy. The arts gave me confidence to be myself. This creative thinking made me adaptable and more empathetic. I believe we need more arts. I believe our children need more chances to think creatively and take risks. Have I convinced you? Sign up on our mailing list for more details about the program, updates about the planning and inspiration on why the arts matter now.
What classes are you offering?
We aim to have a balance of all the arts and a sprinkling of tech and sports. We will send updates to our mailing list whenever we add new courses and a final catalog will be sent out in June.
How many teachers will the program hire?
We will have approximately a 1-4 ratio of staff to students. The final number of staff depends on the number of students enrolled.
What is served for lunch?
Lunch must be provided by the family and is not included in the tuition.
Why is the program in English?
Two reasons:

1. There are many international students in Wrocław. While students may go back to their home countries, many working family members stay behind. This program is an exceptional reason for families to stay together during the summer holidays.

2. Almost every young person in Poland is learning English. This program gives students a chance to put the books aside and practice English in a fun, exciting and creative environment.

Where will the program be?
We have been visiting Wrocław’s high schools and will be announcing the location in February.
How much does the program cost?
Tuition for the program is 4,000zł. There is a discount of 10% for registering before April 15. To complete registration you must make a 1,000zł deposit to Fundacja Aardvark Arts. This deposit goes towards the tuition and is non-refundable after May 15.
What is Fundacja Aardvark Arts?
It is a nonprofit arts organization that was started in 2013. The main goal of the foundation is to explore the intersection of arts, culture, education and technology. Aardvark Arts is organizing Creative Summer. Other projects include Shakespeare Club and Wrocław’s Story Center.
